Next, just use scissors or a knife to cut through the middle of this hardened, glossy section. Check for inner strands that aren’t fully melted and finish melting them with your heat source. 3. 3- Heat up an old steak knife using a stove, torch, or campfire until it is glowing red hot. Use this knife to cut & seal the cord at the same time. This produces the cleanest, nicest seal out of all of the methods. You can also invest in a “hot knife” tool which will do the same thing. “Hot knife” tools are used for cutting professional climbing rope as well since it is such an effective method.
